Lineup #1

Welcome to The Monday Lineup.

I'm just happy to be here, and hope you are too.

So here’s how this is going to go: I’m gonna post some songs, write a few sentences about them (hopefully making it look like I know what I’m talking about), and you'll take a listen. Ideally you like them as much as I do and we get to gush over them together. #swoon

This first group of songs is a mix of things I’ve been loving on for the past few weeks and in all honesty cannot wait to share with you.

The Magician - Magic Tape #45

The Magician is the best thing to happen to dance music in the last 4 years. Yep, I said it. With his almost-monthly Magic Tapes, The Magician consistently mixes together and showcases some of the best new talent in the dance scene. Case in point: He remixed Rather Be by Clean Bandit in January. January. Survey says you started singing “No place I’d rather beeee” in the shower in July. The Magician will always be 6 months ahead of you, and his newest doesn’t disappoint.

George Maple - Talk Talk

George is not a man. Tricky! She's a she, and also recently signed with Future Classic (Flume’s label), which is how I discovered this one. The melody on the verses totally gets me, and her layered vocals that come in around the 2 minute mark REALLY get me.

Theophilus London - Tribe (feat. Jesse Boykins III)

Good to see Theo back in action - especially producing with old friend and well known French House producer Brodinski (and Club Cheval). You can feel the French House dance influence in this one but it also has this kind of Tribe-al feel to it (get it?). Looking forward to the remainder of Theo's Kanye-produced album dropping at the end of October.

Ariana Grande - Be My Baby feat. Cashmere Cat (edit)

If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with Cashmere Cat. So naturally I was more than thrilled to hear that he would be producing a song for Ariana. Arguably one of the best tracks on her newest album, I’m especially into this especially Cashed out alternate version of Be My Baby. Woop!

Sam Smith - I’m Not The Only One feat. A$AP Rocky

Well this was not not going to get posted. My favorite song released on In The Lonely Hour with an A$AP verse laid down on it? Hi, yes k thanx bye.

Vance Joy - Georgia

If you haven’t listened through Vance Joy’s debut full album, definitely take some time to do it. Especially when it’s sort of cloudy, IMHO the best time for a good indie folk session. I was immediately drawn to Georgia, both the vocal and guitar melodies are absolutely stunning. It’s exactly the type of song we’d spend all summer obsessing about and playing over and over again at camp. Plus the that transition out of the bridge at 2:50 is just stupid good.

First Aid Kit - Emmylou

I’m also obsessed with Swedish sisters and folk duo extraordinaire, First Aid Kit. And pretty much any sisters who make music and harmonize (what up Tegan & Sara, Este & Alana & Danielle). I love First Aid Kit’s most recent album Stay Gold, but cannot stop with Emmylou. Something about that pedal steel guitar. And the vocals. And the lyrics. It’s just so f*cking pretty.

Schoolboy Q - The Purge / Rapfix Cypher (20syl Remix)

JPS played this for me a few months ago, and for whatever reason it just popped back into my head and it’s been on repeat for the past week. As he said, “it’s everything good about Bound 2 and none of the bad stuff”. #preach

Fun Fact:  20syl is also part of C2C, the group behind the song from this popular Dr. Pepper commercial.
