Lineup #176

And the winner is...

The Grammys have been dubbed "Music's Biggest Night", but in my household the biggest music news of last night was the announcement of Primavera Sound's ridiculous 2018 lineup (and not an awards show that snubbed SZA despite her 5 nominations and breakout year in 2017). I'm not saying that there weren't stellar performances and speeches (because there most certainly were), but compared to the Emmys, Oscars and Tonys, I just think the Grammy awards themselves just don't make a whole lot of sense. Ever.

That being said, the Grammys and the recording academy do influence much of how society thinks about and consumes music. If you want to have a more nuanced and articulate discussion about the Grammys and the significance of the academy's choices, take a listen to last week's episode of one of my favorite podcasts, Still Processing - hosted by NYT culture writers (and personal heroes) Wesley Morris and Jenna Wortham. You can find the episode below, or search for the podcast and hit up the episode called "We Have A Right To be Mad".

And while my Monday scaries have been pretty much abolished by the thought of getting to witness a 6-hour Floating Points DJ set and see Lorde take over the main stage at Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona in June, I've prepared Lineup #176 to hopefully make the same happen for you.

Until next Monday.
